This past week TAPH therapeutic art class participated in a silhouette workshop with local Houston artist, Craig Bowie. The class began with a short introduction of his inspiration, as well as involving the class in making their own silhouette painting on canvas. We each sat in front of the canvas with a light shining to create a shadow. Then we had to pencil outline each of our faces onto the canvas. Once the outline was created, we were instructed to paint. We had the freedom to choose the colors that spoke to us, as well as use various other mediums such as fabric and magazines for collage.
Each student began by filling in their outlined face with one color then started to fill in the background. By the end of the workshop, each student displayed their work on the front table and was asked to share why they created their peice the way they did. One of the art students, Ms. Carolyn, said she chose yellow for her face because, "yellow is for yield and for sunshine."
