Born in the sunny state of Florida to a family with an appreciation for the arts, Ms. Ros was a creative soul since the very beginning. She remembers as a child creating art out of whatever she could put her hands on. She loves creating art and has been apart of The Art Project, Houston since the very beginning. She is currently enrolled in the Pottery Class and looking forward to the journey.
When did you start
creating?
Ros: In the second grade when I made my first clay dog and elephant. I did dancing as well, I was a ballerina. When I became older, my parents would take me to the theater.
Who is your biggest influence?
Ros: Sidney Poitier, Bing Crosby and Harry Belafonte
What's your inspiration?
Ros: The most simpliest, non-captivating things. I try to beam in and make something out of whatever I find. Even a mess, I try to reconstruct something beautiful out of it. Even a spill, I create out of spills.
Where do you see your art going?
Ros: Reaching people out there I would not think I could reach, bringing a response, making a difference and bringing change to people's lives. I create on the streets and people are like "You did that?" I respond "Yes, and you can do it to."
The art class brings something out of you and helps you discover what you can do.
What is your favorite medium?
Ros: I like painting because it casts illusions and captures reality. Take what you saw and bring it back again. It is really feeling, because you have to go into that piece to do it. I create by feeling what I see, I tell myself I can do and then I do it. I have to feel and see it before I do it.
