What better day to explore the qualities of a gorgeous fabric then on Valentines Day – love and beauty!

Welcome to the beauty of silk!  This ancient finely woven thread remains as popular today as it was in bible times. From the natural flowing quality of finely woven China silk, silk chiffon and silk Charmeuse to the knotty textures of Doupioni, and silk linen, it’s beauty remains breathtaking.

Learn beginner basic silk painting techniques for applying and setting richly colorful silk dyes.  You may choose to disperse large waves of color or paint the most delicate patterns, images and graphics.  We will experiment with a sampler and get started on a 1’ X 1’ project on Hobatai silk.  Bring your sketches and design ideas or we will develop them along the way and explore the appropriate technique for your vision!  Finished pieces will be permanently chemical set.

Instructor Profile:
Deborah Gavron holds a BS in Design /Art and Urban Life, and has been inspired by the visual, tactile, and potential uses of fine fabrics for over 40 years.  Having been raised as a child in the family interior design business, her first experience was in designing clothing, quite often from textile fabrics.  As a student, Deborah combined silversmithing with silk creations. Over the last 20 years the beauty of fine silks and the evolution of silk products have lead her to paint practical works of art.  From silk paintings to silk liturgical banners, costumes and wearable accessories she is most inspired by the opportunity to share her faith through art and calligraphy on silk.  Deborah’s pieces have been most frequently viewed in liturgical and performing arts venues.  She is currently designing a collection of mixed medium interior art.

Through her coaching career and as an advocate for excellence in education, Deborah serves on a variety of boards and committees for wellness in education and the arts.  After raising two children, she currently resides with her husband in South Carolina as a freelance designer and choreographer.

“I hope everyone takes the time and opportunity to enjoy a medium that inspires hope and beauty!”
